Elia alba 1962 was born in brooklyn new york. The program is organized in conjunction with the supper club a solo exhibition by elia alba focused on racial politics and visual culture on view throughjanuary 13 2018. Alba s ongoing project the supper club depicts contemporary artists of color in portraits and presents dinners where a diverse array of artists curators historians and collectors address topics related to people of color and to women. The sixty individual portraits of nonwhite artists taken by elia alba for her current exhibition here titled the supper club are mostly of people she came to know through a series of dinner parties she organizes. The supper club is a full color 136 page monograph of alba s ambitious photographic project centered on artistic identities and the historic lack of representation of cultural producers of color the book is comprised of portraits and thematic dinner conversations with the artists featured in alba s portrait series giving voice and visibility to a diverse community of artists.
